Martine Barker

PaperBoat showcases the work of Martine Barker, a media professional with more than three decades' experience in writing, editing, research, and publication design.

In recent years she has turned her creative skills to working with upcycled materials to create artworks that play with possibilities suggested by the infusion of colour in teas, and the quirky opportunities to make texts and music ‘speak’ in new ways by isolating the tiny printer’s marks that demarcate words or notes on a page, and turning them into creatures that inhabit new worlds.

Martine has worked as a writer, copy editor, commissioning editor, and publications editor. She has also designed illustrated and non-illustrated books and publications, taking projects through from conception to layout to typesetting, and to sign-off for print. She is skilled at image selection and calibration for publication.

Martine is a researcher who loves finding personal stories and bringing these to life, creating narratives for those who do not have the time, or perhaps the confidence, to put pen to paper.

Martine is a writer who delights in story-telling in every form. She enjoys writing to a brief for a range of formats, settings and styles.

She is a book and publications designer who relishes the opportunity to create exciting, elegant displays of text or images.
